Application for SGLMG Board of Directors

DAN BROPHY
(He / Him)

It would be my honour to serve on the board and support the organisation as it continues to evolve its cultural and community offering.

It is with great excitement that I submit my application however in the spirit of keeping it within 200 words, I had to streamline my proposal, omitting a few details I’m excited to share.

Directorship demands both holding a vision - as well as the strategic nous to deliver. Below are some of the key details of career, passion and personal life experience that I believe support me in my intention to champion the board and most importantly the community…

They Don’t Call Me ‘Disco Dan’ For Nothing

As a party aficionado of over 2 decades (and a 5x parade participant), I have a deep reverence for the power of queer spaces for connection -  to each other and ourselves.

Currently working behind the scenes with LGBTQIA+ event group, Angel’s Only on events such as:

- Show Us Your Tips - bringing the queer, sex-worker and local communities together to raise over $20,000 for sex-worker lead organisations (The Abercrombie, The Lansdowne, Strawberry Fields Festival).

- Hostage To Pleasure - A sex positive party centralising non-binary and trans bodies (Kinsellas, KX Hotel, Pleasures Playhouse, OSS).

Business and Marketing Experience

I am a business founder and creative industry leader, with over 15 years experience in strategic digital marketing and content. I’ve had the joy of championing queer storytellers & amplifying intersectional voices.

LGBTQIA+ Work highlights include:

  • DailyJocks’ Diversity+ Campaign - ‘To be the most inclusive brand in the world.’ That was founder Nic Egonidis’ intention when re-launching DailyJocks. Just as the retail experience expanded, offering wheelchair-accessible change-rooms, gender-diverse fits and inclusive sizing, I had the pleasure of working with the team behind-the-scenes to refine & elevate each of the brand’s digital touchpoints in line with their new (ho)M.O.

  • NAB x Midsumma - ‘Loud & Proud’ Podcast Series - interviewing community such as singer Mama Alto, - Midsumma CEO Karen Bryant and Cerulean, winner of the Miss First Nations comp about ‘brining more of who you are to what you do’.

  • RDRDU Season 1 & 2 (Stan)  - Creative direction of the launch events (extravaganzas ) for Drag Race Down Under S1 and S2.

  • Tinder x Mardi Gras - a content series exploring growing up queer in regional Australia featuring iconic performers Felicia Foxx, BVT and Jamar.

A Unique Queer Men’s Wellbeing Offering

Of all of the work I have done in and around the LGBTQIA+ community, I am most proud of the monthly queer men’s mental health initiative, The Check-In Session, developed in response to my own mental health crisis - using my experience designing and facilitating immersive workshops (for Google & Lexus) to design spaces that foster conversation, healing and connection.

I look forward to joining you on the journey of application for the SGLMG Board of Directors.
